Why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Became Part of My Journey

After many years of pursuing different fitness disciplines and achieving personal goals, I reached a point where I asked myself:

What’s next?

I wasn’t looking for another goal—I was looking for a challenge that would force me to grow beyond my comfort zone. I wanted something that would test me physically, mentally, and emotionally. Something that felt almost scary.

I decided to let fear become my compass.

As often happens in life, the answer arrived when I least expected it.Walking through the gym one day, lost in thought, I heard Marcio, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach, say:

“Excuse me, sir… when are we going to roll?”

Without thinking, I replied, “Now.”

At 52 years old, every doubt rushed through my mind.

You’re too old. You’re not strong enough. You’ll get injured. You’ll embarrass yourself.

But instead of listening to those thoughts, I simply observe them —and chose not to let them make my decision.

I’ve been training ever since. It’s still uncomfortable. t’s still hard. Some days it’s painful. And that’s exactly why I continue.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu constantly reminds me to stay calm under pressure, breathe through discomfort, and trust myself in difficult moments. The same principles apply far beyond the mats - they apply to life.

For me, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn’t about learning to fight. It’s about becoming the kind of man who doesn’t run from discomfort, because that’s where the growth and self-mastery begin.

Transformational Mastery with PEAT Therapy

PEAT is a powerful self-mastery process that helps identify and resolve the subconscious emotional patterns shaping your thoughts, behaviours, and reactions.

By bringing awareness to unresolved emotions and releasing the emotional charge they carry, PEAT helps uncover and address the subconscious patterns at their source. As these inner conflicts are integrated, you gain greater clarity, emotional resilience, and lasting inner balance.

Rather than simply managing symptoms, PEAT helps dissolve the emotional charge that drives reactive behaviours and limiting beliefs. By understanding and transforming the subconscious roots of these patterns, you experience greater freedom, healthier relationships, improved wellbeing, and a higher quality of life.

As part of the Dule Self Mastery approach, PEAT supports profound personal transformation, helping you break free from what holds you back, strengthen your mindset, and reconnect with the man you are capable of becoming.

Becoming an Health Coach

Since young, I knew that movement had the power to transform lives. I dreamed of helping others experience the same strength, confidence, and sense of wellbeing that I found through fitness.

Life, however, had other plans. Growing up during civil war, survival came before purpose. Yet I believe that the path God places before us is never accidental.

In my early thirties, I left Europe for the Middle East and finally began my career in the fitness industry. It felt like coming home. Helping people improve their health and discover what they were capable of gave me a deep sense of purpose.

As my career progressed, I moved into leadership roles, believing I could inspire even more people. While the career brought many opportunities, I gradually realised that success and status could never replace the fulfilment of working directly with people. I missed the human connection—the opportunity to truly help someone change their life.

When I reached another crossroads and asked myself, “What’s next?”, the answer was already beside me. My wife became the catalyst who encouraged me to look beyond the corporate world and return to what had always been my true calling. Through her support and belief in me, I discovered Health Coaching—a path that united my passion for movement with a deeper understanding of nutrition, mindset, and lasting wellbeing.

Today, Health Coaching is an integral part of my work, allowing me to do what I always felt called to do: guide men towards better health, greater resilience, and a life of purpose through lasting self-mastery.

How Fitness Became a Way of Life

I grew up in a time when life was lived outdoors. Football, basketball, volleyball—if it involved movement, competition, and a ball, I was there. Sport wasn’t just something I did; it became part of who I was.

As a teenager, I discovered strength training. While I enjoyed becoming physically stronger, what fascinated me most was how it changed the way I felt. After every workout, I experienced greater clarity, confidence, energy, and a deep sense of accomplishment. Long before I understood the science, I recognised that exercise was transforming not only my body, but also my mind.

When my lovely father built me a simple home gym, it became the beginning of a lifelong commitment. More than 40 years later, I still train five days a week, and I still experience the same benefits that first inspired me.

Over the years, I’ve seen people begin their fitness journey in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond, experiencing the same transformation. Movement is one of the most powerful forms of natural medicine. It strengthens the body, sharpens the mind, builds resilience, and creates the foundation for lasting self-mastery.

As part of my Self Mastery approach , fitness isn’t about chasing the perfect physique—it’s about building the strength, discipline, and vitality that allow you to live with confidence, purpose, and freedom.
